Abstract

Type 1 diabetes affects millions of people worldwide and requires careful management to avoid serious long-term complications, including heart and kidney disease, stroke, and vision loss. The group of patients with type 1 diabetes is very heterogeneous, with individuals having the disease at different stages. Over 40 % of patients living with type 1 diabetes develop diabetic eye disease. Early detection and timely appropriate treatment can reduce the risk of blindness by more than 95 %.
