Congenital glaucoma is an extremely rare disease that leads to permanent vision loss at a young age and early recognition and adequate treatment are extremely important. The prevalence in Europe ranges from 1 in 10,000 to 18,000 newborns. Given the extreme heterogeneity of glaucoma types, it is necessary to adequately classify childhood glaucoma. Primary congenital glaucoma is the most common cause of glaucoma in those patients who do not have associated syndromes or diseases. It most often presents with symptoms of photophobia, blepharospasm, and tearing of the eye. The first approach to treatment is surgical treatment. There are different surgical approaches, and the most commonly used techniques are angle surgery - goniotomy, filtration surgery, and implantation of glaucoma drainage devices. Given the extreme complexity of clinical diagnosis and surgical treatment, it is necessary to refer the child to an adequate third-level institution in order to prevent permanent visual impairment.
