Sexual abuse of children: diagnostic examination and factors affecting the disclosure

Sexual abuse of children is a widespread social and public health problem. Most cases of sexual abuse of children are not reported, mainly due to fear and/or insufficient knowledge about the problem. The primary responsibility of a paediatrician is child protection. Adequate multidisciplinary examination of the child may be crucial in preventing consequences for the child, the family and the society as a whole. Numerous factors affect the disclosure of sexual abuse of children.
