Abstract

Cytogenetic European Quality Assessment (CEQA) was founded in 2005 upon Eurogentest Network of Excellence in Genetics in order to improve and harmonize the quality of cytogenetic laboratory services across Europe. CEQA off ers a variety of programs for external quality control covering Pre- and Postnatal Cytogenetics, Haemato-Oncology Cytogenetics, Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, and Molecular Cytogenetics (Microarray/ArrayCGH, and PGD Array pilot program). CEQA operates through a password- -protected website and the system is designed to mimic the stepwise process undertaken by a laboratory analysing a real diagnostic case. Laboratories were assessed for the overall of services provided to their patients, including analytical and interpretative performance. The participation in CEQA program is an excellent opportunity to perform highly professional and scientifi cally based external quality assessment for all countries like Croatia where the national external quality control system for cytogenetics has not been organised.
