Gastroschisis is a visually impressive, life threatening congenital malformation with urgent operative indication. During the 2005-2010 period, ten neonates with gastroschisis were treated at Department of Pediatric Surgery, Sestre milosrdnice University Hospital Center. Eight neonates with gastroschisis were surgically treated using silicone bag, while primary reconstruction of abdominal wall was performed in two neonates. Surgical treatment with silicone bag was accomplished in two acts. During first operation, eviscerated intestines were placed into a silicone bag, which was then fixed to the muscular part of the abdominal wall. Within ten days, most of the protruded intestines were reduced into peritoneal cavity; in the second operation, silicone bag was removed and abdominal wall closed in full thickness. All ten patients with gastroschisis fully recovered during three-month hospital stay. The procedure requires close cooperation of anesthesiologists, neonatologists-intensivists and gastroenterologists.
