Developmental displacement of the hip (DDH) is the most common congenital anomaly of the human musculoskeletal system. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of DDH at Maternity Ward, Virovitica General Hospital, as well as the relationship between DDH, gender and the affected side. We examined 2034 (81.0%) children (4068 hips) up to 12 weeks of age. The ultrasonographic study was carried out according to Graf method. DDH was found in 140 (6.9%) children, 102 (72.9%) female and 38 (27.1%) male. There was no significant difference according to the side involved. The high incidence of pathologic findings justifies the implementation of ultrasonographic screening for DDH in Croatia as a method of preventing degenerative changes of the hip.
